Description

The Origin: Developed by German metallurgists in the early 19th century to mimic the look, weight, and luster of sterling silver without the massive price tag, the trademark name "Alpacca" was popularized by the famous Austrian manufacturer Berndorf around 1843.
Age: Judging by the heavy Rococo-revival styling, the shapes of the spoon bowls, and the standard shapes of the fork tines, this set most likely dates from the late 19th century to the early 20th century (circa 1890s–1930s).
Region: "Alpacca" flatware of this specific stylistic caliber was incredibly popular in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Scandinavia. Large European makers like Wellner (Germany), Berndorf (Austria), and Krupp frequently made high-end hotel and residential sets using these exact materials.
